Recommended Food for Puppies
Dogs
We recommend a diet specifically labeled for “puppy” until they are 9-12 months old. Large Breed Puppy foods are only recommended for dogs expected to get over 70 lbs.
The reason for Science Diet, Purina, Royal Canin, Iams, and Eukanuba being recommended is that these companies have been around for multiple generations of dogs to evaluate the full health effects of the food over a dog’s lifetime. They have also completed AAFCO feeding trials under the direct supervision of veterinary nutritionists to demonstrate the digestibility and availability of the critical nutrients that dogs need in actual dogs, not just theoretical based on a recipe.
We do NOT recommend any grain-free foods due to causing heart disease.
